Blue Lake is the project of Jason Duigan, a Texas born and Denmark based multidisciplinary artist, whose work layers his custom-built 48-string zither with slide guitar, clarinet, and pump organ, to create music that intertwines ambient and New Age, with the temperaments of free improvisation and DIY. Hal Lambert and Mitchell Mobley are a droned-out, expansive, and sound bathing, guitar’n’drums duo from Baton Rouge. Kelby Clark’s music feels like a sparse, meditative, and melancholic, contemporary take on rural America through a deep emotional use of the pedal steel guitar and 5-strings banjo. A first time duo of cellists Kourtney Newton (Amorsima Trio, Bitches Set Traps) and Brianne Sargent (Skinny Cooks) will open the night.
“an immersive world unfolds at the juncture of DIY hippie folk, off kilter ambient music, German kosmische, minimalism, and improvised acoustic experimentalism, culminating as one of the most uniquely beautiful and creatively striking albums we’ve encountered so far this year.” Bradford Bailey about Blue Lake
“It’s possible that the title of Baton Rouge-based duo Hal Lambert and Mitchell Mobley’s album “The A-Z of Bullshit” belies the complexity and extent of its appeal. It’s both propulsive and static; tromping and soaring; humid and arid; charmingly languid and shit-kickingly insistent. It smiles at you wryly even as it considers the plane of eternity…This is a proper slice of modern American kosmische” Jen Powers
“Kelby Clark is a New Orleans based pedal steel guitarist who is probably best known for his industrial soundscapes as Divorce Ring. Yet the music under his own name is a world away from abrasion, unexpectedly offering up a sparse, cinematic desert twang that is ridiculously atmospheric and minimal.” Frankie Harrison
