Molten Plains XVIII

Molten Plains XVIII

The penultimate Molten Plains of the year is the last one before our two-day festival, it’s a very special one!

Tara Battacharya and James Eck Rippie are coming from Austin threading their long seasoned paths in experimental music. Wenepa played together for the first time in November last year at Molten Plains, this time they will be fresh back from the Native Sound Summit at First Americans Museum. Princess Haultaine III will open the evening channeling worldly grievances about settler colonialism and genocide by shredding the dumpster behind the venue, to later close the night live processing the dumpster session recording.

TARA BATTACHARYA is an experimental musician, singer, performance artist, and filmmaker living and working in Austin, TX. She runs Antumbra Intermedia and her struggles as a woman of color has factored into all her creative output throughout her life and in 2019, she founded Interference Fest: Women Making Noise. JAMES ECK RIPPIE is a sound artist, composer, and improvisor, working within various forms of synthesis, turntablism, and psychoacoustics. He has collaborated with artists such as Shara Nova, Ran Slavin, eriKm, Colin Andrew Sheffield, Paulo Raposa, Simon Whetham, amongst others.

WENEPA means noise in Chickasaw. We come from multi-colored mountains, cold island cities, arid wild plains and fast moving air. We seek the original ruckus. Suzanne Terry, Melanie Little Gomez Smith, Jesse Chandler, Des Smith.

PRINCESS HAULTAINE III is purposefully un-pigeonhole-able, elements of lowercase, dark ambient, musique concrète, spoken word, improvisation, harsh noise, doom metal, hip hop, and more are featured throughout the recorded output, and any of these tools could appear during live performances, which usually feature elements of visual performance art. A deeply remorseful combat veteran turned vehement anti-imperialist, catharsis and activism through art has become a matter of life or death.
