We have a very special guest coming from Montreal: Anne-F Jacques is bringing her idiosyncratic low-technology/trivial-objects sound material to North Texas for the first time. Rebecca Novak is coming back from Houston for her third set at the Molten Plains, on this occasion to perform as a duo with Miguel Espinel for a multi-instrumentalists encounter. A rare solo set of Justin Lemons will expansively open the night.
ANNE-F JACQUES
a sound artist based in Montreal, Canada. She is interested in amplification, oblique interactions between materials and construction of various contraptions and idiosyncratic systems. Her particular focus is on low technology, trivial objects and unpolished sounds. She regularly realizes installations, performances and ephemeral interventions and gives workshops about domestic appliances hacking. Anne-F has collaborated with Ryoko Akama, Bardo Todol, claire rousay, Tim Olive, and Zhu Wenbo, among many others. She has worked with Tsonami Festival (Chile), Experimental Intermedia (New York), Ftarri (Tokyo), CTM (Berlin), Umbral (Mexico), Centrale for Contemporary Arts (Brussels), High Zero (Baltimore) and MEM (Bilbao).
REBECCA NOVAK
A Houston-based musician and artist whose material approach to improvisation incorporates a constellation of instruments and objects – cornet, piano, glass vases, shortwave radio – with an ear for fine-grained textures and electronic- or mechanical-sounding noise using acoustic instruments. Her work often combines music with live writing, sculpture or projected image as a way of investigating the complex relationships between environment & self, body & object, performance & being, the political & the philosophical. Novak has performed and recorded in the trio Garden medium with Sandy Ewen and Carol Sandin Cooley, in duos with percussionist Anders Zelinski and electronic musicians Anisa Boukhlif and Steve Jansen, and in the sound and light duo Waveform Reversal with bassist / projectionist Ivy Woods.
